Both Hayley and Josh sat side by side in their third period French class, not understanding a damn word Mrs. Steward had said for the past hour and a half, for the simple fact that she didn’t know the langue very well herself. Rumor has it, that what’s in her coffee cup isn’t coffee at all. It’s surprising that she hasn’t been caught by the principal, or other faculty members. Students actually don’t care, on the best days Mrs. Steward would be so wasted, that the entire class period is spent watching a movie, that had absolutely nothing to with French other than the subtitles being in French.
Hayley impacitently tapped her pencil against her desk waiting to be excused from class for lunch. She glances at clock one last time and right on cue, five minutes before the lunch bell was to sound Mrs. Stewards says: “Mrs. Williams you and Mr.Farro are excused once you have your assignment written down.” Hayley and Josh smirk as the rest of the class groaned because they would have to suffer a bit longer listening to Mrs. Steward’s fake French accent.
“I think I can actually get use to this.” Hayley says referring to the privilege that she and Josh received to leave all their classes early, so Josh’s isn’t stampeded by the wild animals that crowded the halls once all classes were released. Not to confused, this special treatment wasn’t just for Josh it’s pretty much for anyone that’s on crutches, in a wheel chair or just injured period, and of course the lucky person that gets to help them around.
“So, are taking advantage of me, because of my temporary crippleness.” Josh pouted playfully. As they continued to walk in the direction of their locker to put away their books, before heading to the cafeteria.
“Of course I am.” Hayley giggles
“You know there’s a special place for people who take advantage of the disable.” Josh chuckles. Hayley gasps, slapping Josh’s shoulder not believing he said that to her, but she knew he was joking.
“You are not disable, you’re just being a big baby, because of a broken broke.” Hayley says holding the door to the cafeteria open for Josh. He chuckles once more walking by her. “So what will it be?”
“Well it smells like Pizza fresh out the oven.” Josh wiggled his eyebrows.
“Pizza it is!” Hayley walked to the short lunch line, thinking that just maybe Josh’s isn’t as bad as he first seems, but her thoughts were interrupted my Mrs. Clark the lunch lady, who’s also her grandmother friend.
“Oh hello Dear. How are you?” Mrs. Clark asks.
“Fine and you?” Hayley countered with a big smile.
“Pretty good. What can I get for you today?”
“Two pizza’s, a salad and two waters. “ Hayley Responds.
“Well don’t you have quite an appetite today?”
“Actually this isn’t all from me.” Hayley says politely, nodding in Josh’s direction.
“Oh, isn’t he quite the looker, I’m happy for you.” Mrs. Clark winked.
Hayley blushes. “Were only friends.” she says before saying goodbye and walking to the cashier to pay for her’s and Josh’s lunch. “Hope you don’t mind, I used your money to pay form lunch as well, I’ll pay you back later “Hayley places Josh’s lunch trey down, in front of him before taking the seat across from him.
“No it’s cool.” Josh takes a sip of his water, smiling as he brings the water bottled back down from his lips.”
“What?” Hayley laughs nervously as Josh had been staring at her for the past minute, without saying a word.
“Nothing!” He mutters, with a sly smirk. Hayley turns her head, glancing around the almost empty cafeteria, to hide her blush that crept among her pale cheeks. She was staring to have that feeling again, that feeling that made her believe she had feeling for him. She knew it wasn’t love that she was feeling; simple because she didn’t believe in it, maybe it was a crush. It had to be a crush…. At the sound of the bell that officially started lunch Hayley signed in relief, knowing between that her friends would come and break the awkward silence that floated amongst her and Josh; and that they did.
“Finally pizza that isn’t burned and cold.” Taylor says loudly taking the seat to next to Hayley.
“Yeah and no hair in the salad” Kat mutters.
“I think it’s because they fired Berta. Can you believe she really did that to Mr. Barret?” Jeremy chuckled. Berta was the worst lunch lady ever, She always served the food cold, never wore a hair net, and the worst was the enormous wart just above her lip. She had gotten fired for spitting in a teachers food right in front of him; let’ just say that he didn’t take that very kindly.
“Make room, Make room for the all mighty.” Hayley and her friends hear a familiar voice followed by laughter and more talking. “Hey baby how you doin.” Pair of arms wraps around Hayley’s petite frame, and a pair of lips connect to her cheek. Hayley smirks as she notices the look on Josh’s face. It no longer held a sense of happiness, or the cockiness it did earlier. It was something different. Was Josh Farro Jealous that I was getting attention from another guy? Hayley thought to herself.
“ALEX! Stop!” Hayley half squealed and half laughed as Alex began to move his kisses lower down his friends neck. Hayley had known Alex and his friends from school; Alex was the one that got her a job at the bowling alley. She also had a crush on him when they first met, but soon found out that he was a player, and decided that they’d best be friend.
“You know you like it.” Alex muttered, letting his lips lightly grace the skin of her neck.
“You two are really gross.” Taylor turns his head, and continued to ewww!
“Alex.” Hayley whined, knotting her fingers in his dirty blonde hair, and giving it a light tug. Everyone seated at the table with the exception of Josh knew that this was Alex’s usual routine with Hayley whenever he was present at school, so no one had a problem with it but Josh. Josh was jealous, he was jealous that he wasn’t the one doing that to her.
“Dude why don’t you back off, can’t you see that she doesn’t want you to touch her.” Josh finally snaps once he’s had seen enough of this guy’s hands all over the girl her desperately wanted attention from.
“Who is this guy?” Alex slightly pulls his l away from Hayley for a brief second.
“Guys this is Josh he’s new, and Josh this is Alex, Jack, Rian, and Zack; there our other friends who come to school occasionally.” Hayley introduced. Josh calmed a bit, but still didn’t like the way this Alex guy had his hands all over Hayley, but apparently she didn’t care, so why should he.
“So how about you and I get out of here. My car, I cleaned out the back seat yesterday.” Alex kisses Hayley’s cheek again.
“In your dreams you Gaskrath.” Hayley pushes Alex away, and he pulls ups a seat on the right side of her.”
“You’re always in my dreams baby.” Alex smirks at Josh as he says those words to Hayley. Hayley and her friends began to talk randomly amongst each other, before once again they were interrupted.
“Josh, Tessa wants to have a word with you.” Megan, Tessa first sidekicks says as Mindy, Tessa’s second clone stood by her side.
“I’m kind of in the middle of something.” Josh rolls his eyes, turning his attention back to the people at his table.
“It’ll only be for a minute.” Mindy challenges.
“No, go away.” Josh snaps.
“Please!” Mandy begs pathetically, knowing if she went back to Tessa empty handed, she would be yelled at and humiliated for not being able to complete one task.
“No.” Was Josh’s final answer.
“You heard the man, so go away, unless you want to take a seat on, my lap Mandy.” Jack smirked.
“As if, Barakat, I’m way out your league.” The two girls glanced at Josh again with pleading eyes, when Josh didn’t respond they sighed in defeat. Hayley Josh and their friends all watched in amusement as both Mindy and Mandy were screamed at by Tessa, before her herself shot from her seat.
“Joshie boy, I think you’ve pissed of the wicket witch.” Jeremy teased.
“Josh we need to talk.” Tessa says rudely.
“We don’t have anything to talk about Tess.” Josh says coldly.
“Yes we do. Why are you sitting with these fucking losers?” Tessa spat
“Hey I take offence to that.” Alex joked.
“Fuck off Gaskarth, I wasn’t talking to you.” Teass hissed.
“You weren’t doing much talking last night either.” Alex says pretending to give a blow job. The table of friend, burst into a fit of laughter. Tessa gasped, quickly storming away.
“Wow Alex didn’t know you’d scoop that low.” Hayley says in disgust.
“Hey she was offering.” Alex chuckled.
“You’re gross Alex.” Hayley lightly shoves his shoulder.
Towards the end of lunch Hayley found herself in the girl’s restroom with Kat and Sabrina gossiping about everything, though Hayley didn’t expect the topic of Josh to come up, or did she? Of course she did.
“So what with you and Josh?” Kat asked.
“What do you mean?” Hayley blushed.
“Oh my god, something happened didn’t it? You’re blushing like mad” Sabrina Joins in.
“NO nothing happened!” Hayley too quickly for the girls liking.
“Spill it, or I’ll ask Josh myself.” Kat threaten.
“You wouldn’t.” Hayley dared not realizing that she had just admitted that something did happen between her and Josh.
“So something did happen?” Kat smirked. She had Hayley right where she wanted her, but Hayley caved before she could push the topic more.
“Fine, he kissed me once.” Both girls squealed in joy.
“Did you kiss him back?” Sabrina asked excitedly.
“I guess.” Hayley muttered slightly embarrassed.
“When did this happen, and why are we just finding about it, we tell each other everything.” Kat says just excited as Sabrina was.
“The day I told him to come find me so we could discuss him being in the band, and that was it so can we please go back to the…..” Hayley starts but is cut off be Kat.
“No way, you’re not telling us something, we want details.” Kat pushed.
“Ok, but you guys have to promise not to mention this to anyone, not even Jer, and Taylor.”
“We promise.” Kat and Sabrina say in union.
“Ok, the day he came over to my house I had just gotten home from school and decided to take a shower before work, and I had just gotten out of the shower, when….”
He saw you naked?” Sabrina squealed.
“No, but he saw me….” Hayley gulps. “He saw me half naked, and he just stared at me like I was a piece of meat, that he was ready to dig his teeth into.” Hayley blushes.
“So you like him?” Kat questioned.
“I don’t know. I just don’t want to be in a serious relationship again and risk getting hurt again.” Hayley exclaims.
“This is about Jacob Madden, isn’t?” Hayley frowns. “That was freshman year Hayles; He was a jerk, and Tessa’s whore. Just give Josh a chance.” Kat hugs her best friend….
*************************
“So I take it you have a thing for a certain little red head.” Alex smirks at Josh once Hayley and the other girls had left the table.
“What?” Josh asked shocked.
“You like Hayley?”
“No, we’re just friends.”
“Dude you look like you wanted to rip Alex’s head off when he touched Hayley, it obvious you into her.” Rian says. Josh doesn’t know what to say at this point. Of course he liked her, but he didn’t want everyone to know. The looks of things now, made Josh think he had no chance with Hayley.
“I thought Alex was dating her, by the way you two were all over each other”
“He wishes, Alex is a complete man whore, and Hayley knows it, so he has no chance.” Taylor says.
“Dude I’m sitting right here. I can hear you” Alex says playfully.
”Well it is true; you once dated four girls at the same time and neither ever found out.” Jeremy jumps into the conversation.
“How did this conversation turn into an Alex intervention, when we were started out talking about lover boy over there with the crush on H-bomb?” Alex says quite loudly not realizing, the person he was speaking about had returned.
“Who as a crush on H-bomb?” Hayley asked surprised that her friends were talking about her that way, behind her back. All the guys’ heads snapped in her direction, but before anyone could speak the bell sounded ending lunch period.
The group friends quickly jetted from the table leaving Hayley and Josh alone. “So what were you guys talking about?” Hayley quickly asked.
“Oh nothing, just Alex and his nonsense”
“So your cool with Alex.”
“Yeah he seemed pretty cool.” Josh says carefully standing up from the table, using his crutches for balance. Hayley smiles, Josh mush have found out that she and Alex was really only friend.
“Good.” Hayley empties their lunch treys in the trash.
*******************
“Guess I’ll see you in a few?” Josh says climbing out of Hayley’s car.
“Yea, see you.” Hayley quickly goes inside, to let her grandmother know that she was home. After grabbing a quick snack as she usually did, she went up to her room to do her homework. Once Hayley had finish her homework it was time for her to go over to the Farro’s to help Josh with his chores.
“Grandma I’m going over to the Farro’s now.”
“Only there and back.” Her grandmother says sternly.
“Yes ma’am.” Hayley mutters. Hayley rang the doorbell. There was no answer. “Josh it’s me.” Hayley called out ringing the doorbell once more. Still there was no answer. Maybe the Farro’s had gone out for a few, Hayley thought. Just as she made it to the end of the driveway, the front door flew opened revealed Josh. He called her name, Hayley stopped with a sly smile forming on her lips. Was she happy to see him? Had her friend’s word got the best of her?
“What took you so long; I’ve been ringing the doorbell for almost and five minutes.
“You rang the doorbell twice, stop being dramatic.” Josh stepped aside allowing Hayley to enter. I actually don’t have any chores to do, so I thought maybe we could just hangout, watch a movie or something.
Hayley chewed on her bottom lip curiously. “Sure, sounds good.”
“The only TV is upstairs in my bedroom so follow me…” Hayley nods and follows Josh up stairs to his room.
*************
“This movie is scarier than I thought.” Hayley says shielding her eyes with her hand. Hayley and Josh sat side by side against the head board of his bed; Josh had chosen a horror move hoping that Hayley would get scared, and he’d at least get to put his arm around her.
“You’re joking right. This movie is so not scary” Josh lets out a light chuckle, reaching out his arms. “Come here you little wimp.” Hayley stared at Josh for a second or two, not sure if she should move closer or not, and then decided to do so. What could it possible hurt? Josh took his chance to get closer to Hayley, not know if it would work or no. So he was shocked when Hayley moved into his arms. Maybe she did like him, he thought.
Hayley rested her head on Josh’s chest, and he wrapped his arms around her. The two stayed like that for a few, until the scariest part came about. Hayley jumped at the sight on the screen. Josh squeezed Hayley tightly; her heart was pounding in her chest as if she was the one in the movie running from the psycho killer. Both burst into a fit of laugher, once the scene had finished.
“You should have seen you face.” Hayley laughed.
“Hey you were the one who was scared.” Josh laughed harder.
Calming down from their fits of laughter Hayley and Josh find themselves staring deep into each other’s eyes. Josh leans in placing a gentle kiss on Hayley’s lips.
“Josh” Hayley whispers pulling away.
“I’m sorry… I thought you wanted it... I mean” Josh stumbles over his words for the first time with a girl.
“Uhmmmm… It’s ok.” Hayley cuts him off still they stared in each other’s eyes. Why couldn’t the break the stare; it was like electricity pulling them closet again Josh leans in, as well does Hayley. Crashing their lips into each other Hayley moaned feeling Josh tongue brush against hers, before entwined hers with his leading them into a deeper kiss.
“I want you so bad.” Josh panted pulling Hayley to straddle his lap as they continued to kiss.
“Josh.” Hayley moans feeling his hands run down her side, then up under her baggy t-shirt.
“Josh I can’t.” Hayley moans, knowing she wanted what was to happen if they continued just as much as he did, but she didn’t want to do something that she’d regret later on. She allowed Josh’s hands to roam under neither her shirt, but would not let him removed the fabric from her body.
“Please.” Josh whispered, pushing up the fabric of Hayley t-shirt. Hayley and Josh were so busy entertaining each other that they hadn’t realized that they were no longer alone. Two jump apart at the sound of Josh’s grandfather clearing his throat.
“Your grandmother down stair, I’m sure she wouldn’t approve of this so you two should probably get off the bed fix yourselves up.” Mr.Farro says.
“We weren’t doing anything; we were just watching a movie.” Josh says quickly.
“I’m sure you were.” His grandfather chuckles.
“I guess he took that well.” Hayley nervously laughs.
“Yeah he’s pretty cool.”
“I should really get going, I kind of told my grandmother I would stay over so late.”
“I’ll walk you down stairs.” Hayley nods. Josh opens the door and Hayley steps outside turning to face. “See you tomorrow.”
“Yeah.” Hayley says shyly. She had never been shy around anyone, now all of sudden she was. Had she really fallen for Josh’s charm?
“Bye.” Josh leans down, giving her one last passionate kiss for the day.”
“Bye Hayley whispered tracing her finger over lips as she walked back across the street to her house.
“How was it,” Her grandmother asked as soon as she walked through the front door.
“Perfect.” She muttered walking straight to her room and throwing herself onto her bed. Yes she had fallen for him……….
