Hayley sat shotgun on Alex’s car, as he drove them to gods knows where. She hadn’t been paying much attention to anything he’s said since leaving the school parking lot. She had too much on her mind at the moment. She couldn’t believe she allowed herself to overreact the way she did again. Hayley wondered how she could even bring herself to think that Josh would hurt her, by kiss this Jenna girl, or Tessa. Hayley wanted to slap herself, she knew what type of girl Tessa was, everyone did, and maybe this Jenna girl was the same way. At that moment Hayley realized that she had to find Josh and make things right, before it was too late. Though Hayley had never admitted it, she knew her feelings for Josh are strong. All the signs were becoming clear; she loves him, and love is a tricky thing, and was something she rarely believed in, but she had never felt this way about anyone else, and she wasn’t ready to lose that feeling…
“Hey, you ok over there?” Alex asks reaching over, to push a few stray pieces of Hayley’s red hair from her face.
“What?” Hayley asked confused, realizing for the first time that the car had stopped, and she and Alex was parked under little rock; the popular make out spot where the Junior and Senior guys form her school would take the little innocent, naïve freshmen girls just to make them feel special before trying to get into their pants.; and that Hayley knew that from experience.
“You ok you seem like you have a lot on you mind.” Alex moves closer to Hayley.
“Yeah, Uhmmmm…I’m fine…It just… never mind it’s really nothing” Hayley shakes her head. Alex nods.
So what do you want to do?” Alex slide closer placing a kiss on Hayley’s cheek.
“Alex!” Hayley whines placing her hand between her and Alex’s face to block his kisses, but Alex doesn’t seem to get the hint that Hayley wanted no part in this possible make out session. His hand grips her wrist pulling it away from her face in a not so gentle manner.
“Alex seriously stop, I don’t want this!” Hayley raised her voice and pushes him away as tries to kiss her again.
“Oh so you can kiss me, but I can’t kiss you?” Alex countered.
“Alex, I’m dating Josh you know that, you and I are… just friends.” Hayley tried to reason.
“It didn’t seem that way when you let me kiss you at lunch, or when you practically to jump me in the parking lot, where were all those feeling for Josh then?”
“We had a little fight, and II was mad at him’ but why are you being this was Alex?” Hayley asked feeling tears threatening to escape eyes. She had never seen Alex like this before.
“Why am I acting this way?” Alex lets out a sarcastic chuckle. Hayley only nods waiting for an answer. “Because you’re fucking using me Hayley, I’ve always loved you, and all you’ve done is ignore my feeling, and now this Josh guy comes around, and he’s like god’s gift to you.” Alex snapped.
“What did you expect Alex, all you do is brag about how many girls you’ve hooked up with, what kind of girl wants that type of guy? And you don’t love, so don’t ever say that again.” Hayley spat back rolling her eyes. “You know what can you just please take me home, I don’t want to talk about this anymore?” Hayley sniffles a bit, wiping away the few tears that manage to escape from her eyes.
Alex sighs and starts the car, and proceeds the drive Hayley home with nothing else to say.
******************
After school had ended that day Josh headed straight home, he wasn’t in the mood to do anything. Entering his home, Josh greeted his grandparent’s and went straight to his bedroom. For a while all Josh did was stare at the ceiling, thinking about how Hayley and how their relationship had fallen apart in such a short period of time. He didn’t know if there’d ever be a chance for them now. He couldn’t just push the memory aside that Hayley had purposely kissed Alex in front of him.
Soon Josh had become tired of staring at the plain white ceiling above him; He pulled himself from his messy bed, grabbing his guitar, and lyric journal, before walking over to his window. Opening his window Josh carefully stepped out onto the roof of his grandparent’s house, and took a seat next to the window, as he had seen Hayley do a few times before at her own house. He began to strum his guitar, slowly a melody began to come together; before he knew it he had a whole song, and it was all about his feeling towards her.
“Hey mister common sense,
Won’t you help me break this fence…down?
Oh God I’m sinking in, Right back into my sin…my sins
Oooh oooh oh”
Josh sang to himself, strumming his guitar, but he instantly stops in the middle of the song as he notice’s Alex’s car turning down their street. Josh continued to sit on the roof watching as Hayley climb from Alex car, and slamming the doors shut, as if she was angry. Without a goodbye Alex did a U-turn and sped off in the direction he had come from. Neither Alex nor Hayley acknowledge Josh’s presents, or maybe they just didn’t see him.
Josh is startled at the sound of his grandmother gasping. “Joshua, what are you doing out there, get back in here right now.” Mrs. Farro demanded.
“Grandma you could have given me a heart attack.” Josh says placing his heart over his heart.
“I don’t want to see you out on the roof ever again; you could fall and get hurt.” Mrs. Farro pulls her grandson into a hug once he’s safely back in the room.
“Grandma I was fine, until you almost gave me a heart attack.”
“Well you shouldn’t have been out there in the first place.” She counters. This time Josh decides not to argue, knowing that there was no use, he grandmother would always have a comeback for everything. “You should get cleaned up for dinner; the Williams’s are coming over.” His grandmother explains.
“What, why?” Josh asks curiously.
“Dose it really matter?” His grandmother asks.
“I was just asking.” Josh shrugged.
“Well if you must know, The Williams’s aren’t doing very well since losing their daughter-in-law, and this is our way of showing our condolences.” Josh realizes though out all the madness he hadn’t once showed Hayley an ounce of sympathy for her loss, all he had done was try and prove his innocents. How could I be so selfish? He thought to himself…
*************************
“Do I really have to go?” Hayley whined.
“Yes, the Farro’s were kind enough to invited us over and we’ll all go as a family.” Hayley’s grandmother says sternly.
Hayley nods, smoothing out the fabric of her simple silky knee high white dress that her grandmother had picked out, before following her grandparent’s to the door. Standing outside the Farro’s house Hayley chewed nervously on her bottom lip as her grandmother rang the doorbell. She knew that Josh would be there; of course he would he lived there, god’s sakes, but was she really ready to approach him. Well she had about two seconds to make a decision.
A) She runs and have her grandparent’s be angry with her, and risk not going on the Paris trip.
B) She stays, and just ignores Josh throughout the entire dinner.
C) She just tells Josh how she truly feels, and hope that things works out for the best.
Well option A was quickly eliminated, as the door opens and her grandmother usher’s her inside. “Well don’t you look lovely this evening?” Mrs. Farro smiles at Hayley for Change. Hayley couldn’t tell if it was out sympathy, or was Mrs. Farro actually being nice.
“Thanks.” Hayley smiles in return.” After greeting Mr. Farro, Hayley glanced around for Josh, but saw no sign of him.”
“Looking for Joshua.” Mr.Farro asked noticing the impatient look on Hayley’s face.” Hayley lightly blushes, but doesn’t respond with words.
“He’s upstairs, dinner won’t for a few more minutes, so feel free to go up, while us old folk wait in the study.” Mr. Farro says. Mrs. Farro frowns at her husband’s suggestion, but quickly replaces her frown with a fake smile and nods.
Hayley rolls her eyes as she turns away; Mrs. Farro was definitely being nice out of sympathy. Hayley once again chew nervously into her bottom lip as she slowly climbed the stairs. Josh’s door is close, Hayley wasn’t sure if she should knock or just go in, thinking that maybe Josh wouldn’t let her in if she told him it was her. Out of respect Hayley decided to knock, but after getting no response after the fifth knock, Hayley felt that this was becoming quite ridiculous, and decides to open the door herself.
Hayley slowly turns the door knob, and pushes the door open, gasping at the sight in front of her. “Oh my god I’m so sorry, I didn’t….” She shield her eyes with her hands as she continues to stutter over her words.
“Grand….” Josh gasps using the covers from his bed to hide his naked body, but calms down when he realizes that it’s not his grandmother who had just walked in on him, getting out of the shower. “
“Is everything alright up there?” Mrs. Farro shouts from the bottom of the stairs.”
“Yes everything alright.” Josh shouts back. “Get in here.” Josh reaches out grasping Hayley’s hand and pulling her inside of his room, before his grandmother would decide the come check on them. “What are you doing up here?” Josh asks, closing and locking the door behind him.
“Uhmmmm….your….your grandfather said dinner wouldn’t be ready for a few more minutes, and he said I could come up.” Hayley says avoiding Josh’s eyes as she was still in dumbfounded at what she had just seen.
“Oh.” Was Josh’s only answer as he dropped the blanket that covered his naked body before pulled on his boxers and walking over to his closet to find something to wear?
Hayley sighs; Josh was defiantly upset with her.” Look Josh, I’m sorry about everything.” Hayley says moving over to Josh, and placing her hand on his damp shoulder once she was close enough. “I should have let you explain, I shouldn’t have overacted the way I did. I sorry, please don’t be mad at me.” Hayley finishes as a single tear slips down her cheek. She hated that Josh was angry with her but it was all her fault.
Josh sighs, sucking in a deep breath before turning to face Hayley. He stared into her emerald green eyes without saying a word. Seeing her cry had made everything that happened today disappear. Josh cups Hayley’s face in his hands using his thumbs he caresses her cheeks and wipe away the tears that manage to escape her eyes. Still not saying a word Josh leans and begins to kiss Hayley’s lips every so passionately. Although Hayley didn’t except what was happening, she kissed Josh back with no hesitation.
“I love you Hayley Nichole Williams” Says clearly after breaking the kiss they shared. Hayley doesn’t know what to say, so she stares at Josh as if he was speaking some foreign langue. “Do you understand me Hayley?” Josh asks. Hayley nods. “I know you don’t believe in love, but I do and I thought I’d let you know how I feel about you; so please don’t push me away.” Josh pauses. I wouldn’t be able to handle living without you, now that I know you.” Josh continues.
“I love you too.” Hayley breaks down with no way to stop the tears.
“Hey don’t cry.” Josh pulls Hayley into his arms and holds her tightly, allowing her to let all the emotions out. Josh walks Hayley over to his bed where he continues to hold her in his arms her back against his bare chest. After a few minutes Josh had manage to calm Hayley down, were the two began to make out again, feeling as if it had been years since they shared a kiss together.
“I should rget dressed, before my grandmother comes up her and things the worst Josh chuckles kissing Hayley’s cheek. Hayley giggles and climbs from Josh’s lap, and rest’s against the headboard of Josh’s bed, where she watched him search for clothes. Josh only smirks wanting to ask her if she liked what she saw, but instead he rolls his eyes playfully pulling out his favorite pair of skinnies.
Just as Josh gets his pants up there a knock on his door followed by his grandmother voice. “Dinner is ready you two.”
“Shit.” Josh curses under his breath as he quickly pulls a random t-shirt from his closet while Hayley climbed off Josh’s bed and took a seat by the window seal.
“Why is this door locked?” Mr. Farro asked jiggling the door knob. Josh glances at Hayley. Hayley shrugs.
“Sorry didn’t know it was locked.” Josh says innocently to his grandmother as he pulled the door open. Mrs. Farro glances between two suspiciously, trying to find something out of the ordinary, and that she did.
“Hayley why is you dress wet in the back? Mrs. Farro asked she followed after both Josh and Hayley who smirked and held each other’s hand, before Mrs. Farro spoke, which turned their smirks into frowns….
Had they been caught…?
