I found myself waking up quite early today, earlier than usual not getting much sleep last night. I had so much on my mind; I had watched my life fall apart in the blink of an eye, because of all the lies I’ve told. Now it was time to rebuild. I pushed to covers aside, climbing out of bed, wincing as my bare feet come in contact with the cold hardwood floors.
A light chuckle escapes my lips as I remember the day Hayley suggested that we should get carpet installed in the bed because of how much we both disliked the cold floors in the morning. God how I miss waking up with her in my arms.
I glanced at the time before I was off to the bathroom. I had a good two hours before I was to wake Madaline for school, and I thought I could at least look somewhat decent today, as today was the day I would try to convince Hayley that we should try and work things out.
“Daddy are you really going to stay with me at school today?” Madalin asked taking bite of her pancake.
“Yeah, I promised you would.”
“Yay, now you can see my baby brother.” Madalin smiles brightly.
I smile back. “Yes sweetie, now finish eating your breakfast, we have to go soon. Nervousness had over taken all of senses, as I was only a few minutes away from Madalin’s school, I knew Hayley wouldn’t be there so early, but just the thought of seeing her, felt as if it would be too overwhelming, and the fact that she was pregnant wouldn’t make it any easier.
I shut the car of after finding a pretty decent parking space. Laying my head back on the head rest, and closing my eyes I take a deep breath to calm myself. “Daddy were going to be late.” Madalin whined. I chuckle; Madalin had always been a determined little girl. I could remember when she stared to walk; Jenna and I stall baby gates in every doorway. Once she even manage to get past one of the gates, and had begun to climb down the stairs backwards on her own. I completely freaked out, running to her taking her into my arms, before something bad would happen; she only smiled, batting those big brown eyes of her than laid her head on my shoulder like nothing happened, she was one and a half at the time and I was over protective, though I still am to this day.
I unsnapping my seat belt, before getting out of the car to help Madalin. I carried her backpack on one hand and held her tiny hand in the other, as we walked down the somewhat crowded hallway.
“Hi, Josh how’s it going” Kat smiled.
“It’s going.” I half smiled.
“So Jeremy, says you quit your job, you know if you need a hand with Madalin, Jer and I would love to have her over any time.
“Thanks, but everything’s find Kat.” I reassured her. “Can I ask you something before class starts?” She glances down at her watch.
“Yeah sure.”
“Has Hayley been here lately?” Kat signs.
“Yes, she had lunch with almost every day her, for the past six months.”
“Why didn’t you tell me, I mean Madalin’s my daughter?”
“I know Josh; I just promised Hayley I wouldn’t say a thing, unless you asked. She told me that you two had broken up, and I wasn’t sure if you would allow her to see Madalin or not. Then I saw how Madalin was happy that Hayley was coming to visit, before she’d just mope around. I didn’t want to see her unhappy Josh; surly you can understand that.” Kat exclaims.
“Yes I understand. I asked Hayley to visit Madalin, though I had no idea that she actually was until yesterday when Madalin let it slip out.
“Ok as long as you ok with it I’ll allow her to continue. By the way do you know that she’s like seven months pregnant.” Kat whispers the word pregnant in a hush tone.
“Not until yesterday.”
“Oh.” She pauses. “Well I have to get to my class.” She says as the bell sounds.
“Kat, do you maybe think I could sit in on your class just for today, I kind of already promised Madalin I would stay.”
“Joshua I am shocked.” She covers her mouth with her hand.
“What?” I asked confused.
“You using you sweet innocent daughter to get you mojo back.” Kat says seriously, before bursting into a fit of laughter.
“Wow.” I laughed.
“Yeah, Jer and I had an Austin Power movie marathon.” She calmed her laughter, as we entered the classroom.
“Good morning class.” Kat smiles at her class.
“Good morning Mrs. Davis.” The entire class says in union.
“Today we have a new class helped, please say hello to Mrs. Farro.” The children began to say Hello, and clap their hands excitedly.
“Don’t let their cuteness fool you, there quite a hand full though they are a joy to be around.” Kat said after she instructed the child to take out there math books.
“Yeah I know.” I smiled glancing at Madalin. So what exactly does the class helper do?” I asked.
“You’ll find out.” Kat smirked.
What have I gotten myself into…

(Hayley)
“Hey, guys I’m leaving now” I called over my shoulder, heading towards the door.
“Do your really thing you should be going out today, it’s rain cats and dogs out there. And besides you in no condition to be driving, you could go into labor at any moment.” Heather said from the couch, Sarah agreed.
I’m seven months pregnant, not nine, and I’ll be fine I’m only going to the school and back.”
“Yeah, but you could still go into labor early.” Sarah says.
“That is possible Hayles” Heather added.
“Don’t say that.” I snapped. Ever since I found out about losing my first child, everything about me being pregnant now had scared the hell out of me. I found myself thinking about every possible thing that could go wrong to make me lose my current baby. I thought that two more months and everything would be find, but who was I kidding, He would be the rest of my life, no matter old he go, he would still be mine.
“Oh geeez we didn’t mean to upset you Hayles, we just don’t think it’s safe for you to dive in such horrible weather.” Sarah says as her and Heather both rushed over to me, pulling, into a hug.
“It’s fine, It’s just the hormones.” Which was probably true?
I’ll drive you there.” Heather volunteers.
“Thanks, I’ll meet you in the car.” I smiled gratefully.
“So have you told you parent’s the good news?” Heather asked on away to the school.
“You mean the baby?” I questioned.
“No I mean the alien growing inside you.” She laugh’s sarcastically.
“Ha-ha, very funny” I say seriously letting hormones get the best of me again.
“I was joking Hayles.”
“I know I frowned, and no I haven’t told them yet, they’d probably drag. Me back to Mississippi and kill me.
“So when should I pick you up?” Heather giggled at my last remark.
“Two-fifteen.” I say before struggled get out of the car while pregnant and holding on the open umbrella that was protecting me form the rain; last thing I wanted, was to get sick at a time like this.
I glanced at my watch as I walked down the empty hallway. I was a few minutes late due to my little argument with Heather and Sarah. Madalin probably though that I wasn’t going to make it, or that I had lied her. Just as I was about to open the door and peak my head in just like I had done every day, the door swung open revealing Kat.
“Hey I thought you weren’t going to make it today.”
“Yeah, I thought the same thing.”
“Well were about to go to lunch now, and I’m sure there’s someone waiting to see you?” Kat smiled motion her eyes towards the end of the line. I waited patiently next to the door waiting to see Madaline.
“Mommy.” She squealed just as she did everyday she say me. I smiled seeing her, but that smile instantly faded. I stared shocked at him.
“Hayley?” He stared just as shocked at me, letting his eyes wonder down to my swollen belly.
“Now you know.” I simply said and began to walk away, before hearing a small cry from behind me. I hadn’t notice Madalin calling my name as I was walking away, until I heard her little voice cry. I instantly stop, turning around to face her.
I glanced at Josh before walk back to where he and Madalin stood. She wrapped her arms around me. I comforted her, rubbing her back telling her that everything would be ok.

Throughout lunch Hayley didn’t say a word to me, her focus was on Madalin, and I didn’t wasn’t to take that away from Madalin; seeing how that was her only time she gets to spend with Hayley. This wasn’t going the way I planned, but I knew it wouldn’t go so easily.
I seized my opportunity to speak with Hayley when the children took a break for recess. I convinced Madalin to play with her friends that jumping rope, she’d always loved that. Since it was raining outside, the children played in the gym. Hayley took a seat on the bleachers. I took the seat next to her.
“Can we talk now?” I asked hoping that she would just give in and talk with me.
“Do you think this is the proper environment, to talk about you infidelity and lying ways?” Hayley snapped, scooting away from me.
“I know what I did was fucked up.” I have no excuse for what I did, it was wrong.” Hayley continued to watch the children play, not looking my way once. “I would have never gone to the club that day if it wasn’t for Jeremy and the guys.” I started again but was cut off by Hayley’s snort.
“Blame it on everybody else, so typical.” She says loud enough for me to hear.
“I’m not blaming them, I’m just saying that I would have never met you if they wouldn’t have drag me there-“Hayley cuts me off once more before I could finish.
“So what you’re saying is that you wish you wouldn’t have met me?” Hayley lets out a bitter laugh.
“That’s not what I’m saying Hayley. I don’t regret meeting you. It’s just when I met you after that incident at the club all I wanted was to be friends with you, and help you with your music career, but the more I got to know you, the more I fell for you. I never wanted to hurt you. I never told you about the baby we lost, because so much was going on. You had just found out about Madalin, you were in the hospital because of me, and my psycho-ex.” I just wanted to protect you Hayley.
“Don’t you mean your psycho wife?”
“No the divorce was finalized a few months ago.” Hayley didn’t speak. I know I didn’t have to tell everything, but there was no point in keeping any secrets anymore. “My ex-wife, she cheated on me you know? With one of my best friends she’s pregnant with his kid, and tried to pin it on me.” I say with no real explanation why.
From the corner of my eye I could see Hayley almost feel sympathy for me. “So that’s why you decided to get with me?” she finally spoke.
“No. Every time I told you I loved you, it was true. I still love you Hayley, I always will.” Hayley doesn’t respond. Soon recess is over. The children are back on the class, learning their last lesson of the day. I sit on the chair opposite of her, wishing that she would say something, anything, but she doesn’t.

(Hayley)
I stood outside of Madalin’s school, waiting for Heather to show up; she was late. I cursed knowing that I school have drove myself. It had stopped, but it was a bit chilly out. At two-twenty five I received a text from Heather saying that her car had broken down, and she wasn’t sure what time she could pick me up.
I signed heading back into the school for warmth, it’s not like I had a choice, unless I wanted to hitch hike with come stranger. I had watched enough horror movies and knew that was a bad idea. So I waited.
“What are you still doing here? Thought you left half an hour ago?” Kat says as she Josh, Madalin and two other small children walked with her.
“Yeah, well my ride isn’t here yet. I didn’t know you had children.” I smiled at the cute little boy and girl.
“Yeah, this is Olivia and Oliver, there both in the first grade.” She smiles down at the children. “I could give you a ride if you want; the school will close in a few, and you shouldn’t be out in the cold in you condition.” Thanks I smile accepting her offer.
“Actually I’m going right by your place, I could take you instead.” Josh offers.
“Sure.” I shrug not wanting to argue with him.
“You’re not taking me home are you?” I asked as we drove in the familiar direction of his parents’ house. He doesn’t speak.
“I don’t know what you’re planning, but it isn’t going to work; so please just take me home. I pouted like a two year old crossing my arms over my chest.
“Get out of the car.” He says, shutting the engine off in his parents drive way.
“No. I want to go home.” I protested. Josh got out of the car, helping Madalin out first, before walking over to my side of the car, opening the door, and undoing my seatbelt.
“Get out of the car.” He repeats lightly tugging on my arm.
“Josh no.” I say sternly.
“Please.” He begged. I sign in defeat, as Madalin moved next to Josh. Josh turned the door knob pushing the front door open without knocking. We enter the house, finding a majority of Josh family and friends sitting in the living room, having a conversation.
“May I have every ones attention?” Josh asked politely. I stand on the doorway confused.
“I love Hayley Nichole Williams with all my heart and I don’t care what anyone has to say about it, no one will ever change how I feel about her. And I wanted everyone here to witness what I’m about to do.” Josh says with so much confidence. I had never seen Josh stand up to his family. Maybe he wasn’t lying about loving me, but what the hell was all of this about.
Hayley I love you more than you will ever know. You’re the mother of my child, not only the one you carry in your womb, but Madalin as well, because I know you’d love her just as much as ours together. I want you and the baby to be in mine and Madalin lives, and vice versa. I want yo prove to you that I can be a better man, than I was to you before. Hayley Nichole Williams will you do me the honor of being my wife.” Josh drops to one knee, holding out a diamond ring for me to accept.
“JOSH.” I gasped glancing down at him holding out the ring, before glancing around the room at the shocked expressions his friends and families wore.
“No.” I suddenly feel anger wash over me, How dare he?” I thought before storing out of the room.
“Hayley?” Josh called following after me. He grabbed my wrist stopping my and turning, me to face him. “Why?” He asked. I take a deep breath trying to force my tears back, but there was no use.
“I pour my heart out to you, and all you can say is No.” Josh spat.
“Josh you can’t expect me to come running back to you because you pulled out some damn ring, that obvious meant nothing to you, when you married you first wife. What happen when you get tired of me? Do I end up lie her, while you move on happily to the next?” I shouted. Josh stood there dumbfounded.
“Just do both of us a favor Josh; take me home, and pretend that you never met me.”
